Musical Epistemology: A Chat with Rod Smith, Natural Philosopher

During this first discussion with Rod Smith, we explore the meaning of Epistemology, or study of knowledge systems, and how music theory serves to tie many fields of research together. Rod has a degree in mechanical engineering and brings his unique knowledge of blueprint mapping to the Alternate Perceptions Community as a gift, in the form of aesthetically stunning, “illuminated” posters. We lay down some foundational principles in music theory, such as the difference between Scale and Key, the extension of academia’s Circle of Fifths into a fourth dimensional helix (Spiral of Fifths) which accounts for pitch and duration, Pythagoras and the Egyptian Mystery schools, Acoustic resonance, and other interesting topics.

During hour two of our chat with Robert, we discuss some specific Mozart compositions and their true authors. According to Mr. Newman, dozens of composers contributed to the Mozart repetoire, including A.C. Cartellieri, G. Sarti, A. Luchesi, G.B. Vanhal, J. Myslivececk, P. Wranitsky and more. However, few people are aware that a massive network of 18th century occult fraternities conspired to bring us this cherished Viennese idol.
