Hi, welcome to the latest incarnation of the Tone Color Alchemy Project!
We will be offering a ten week online study course beginning March 21st 2012, covering the converging topics of Western Music Theory and Western Magickal theory according to the Golden Dawn system of Qabala and the Tree of Life.
The purpose of this study is to learn the fundamentals of Western philosophy through the lens of two potent, historically relevant magical artforms. Music and Qabala share One Root in the Western Mystery Teachings and our intention is to expose the reality of this through a threefold process of study. First, you will learn the fundamentals of music theory, including the basic principles of octave division, scale formulation, chord construction, chord progression, musical modes, and rhythmic notation. Next, you will study the fundamentals of the Qabalistic Tree of Life, including the hebrew alphabet, structural design of the sephiroth and paths, techniques for pathworking, and the full chain of associations for each path. Students in the accelerated program will select a series of historical characters and write an essay tracking the role of musical philosophy in magical thought.
Upon completing these initial stages of inquiry, the basic and accelerated students will come together to study embodied practice of these principles for the final three weeks of the course. The Practice will include intonation of magical names associated with the middle pillar and be based on Israel Regardie’s teachings. Upon completing the occult fundamentals, you will have the choice of learning or composing a piece of music with special consideration for the magickal implications of this music.
A final exam will be assigned at the end of the 10 weeks to gauge comprehension of the coursework and a printed diploma is gifted to those who pass.
Furthermore, those written essays which the course instructors deem to be of excellent quality will be submitted to an upcoming, independently published compilation of articles an Western Hermetic Alchemy and Music Theory. This journal of peer-reviewed studies will be the first in a series of period zines on the same topic. Authors who contribute to the first publication may be eligible for future publications.
All coursework is provided via combination of .pdf format, reference books, and online forum journaling. Each member has their own thread to unfold their educational process as part of a collective. This has been proven through previous TCA salons to be a useful method of personal growth. We have received feedback that there is a sense of feeling held by the container of the group process. In this way, the relationship is not so much of Teacher/Student but rather of the Self-Taught and Reflective Observer.
Like a university course, you will receive regular assignments and feedback on submitted assignments. Failure to complete the coursework on time will impact opportunities to progress to the next phases of the coursework. We have found that people tend to stay on track when studying independently, as part of a group. Therefore, while communication between students is permitted, there is a designated forum for conversation separate from the individual, personal study threads.
The big-picture intention behind this TCAcademy project is to demonstrate a collective desire for intelligent inquiry into the mysteries of music from a formal magical perspective, with respect to the Western Canon. We vote with our dollar for what we wish to see in the world and the founders of the Tone Color Alchemy Project are committed to carrying this subject into the public eye, through printed publications and future dvd documentaries.
Tone Color Academy Course Fees for 3.21.2012 – 5.30.2012
Includes access to the forum, 10 weeks of one-on-one contact with an instructor, opportunity for publication in the TCA journal, and diploma upon completion of the course. Tuition is non-refundable and non-negotiable.
Basic Coursework: $600 plus cost of supplemental texts (approximately $50). There will be two supplemental texts required for this course.
Accelerated Coursework: $750 plus cost of supplemental texts (approximately $70). There will be three supplemental texts required for this course.
